An old steam shovel, Ned means well, but is often clumsy. Once he nearly caused a serious accident, almost knocking out a bridge as Thomas the Tank Engine was about to cross with a goods train. Still, he has a big bucket and a big heart. Ned once worked for Packard & Company, but now digs for the Sodor Construction Company
